Pete Maisonneuve
Owner and General Manager of Home Smarts inc., Pete Maisonneuve is a residential construction professional with more than 20 years experience. It all started as a young lad growing up on a farm where if something needed fixing or building, you pretty much had to do it yourself. This background helped Pete fund his university education by working in various construction jobs. During his 4 years in school he held positions in foundation damproofing, concrete placing / finishing and framing of residential homes. After graduating from the University of Calgary, he spent 6 years “in a suit”. With stints in sales, as a consultant and as a management trainee he found that something just didn’t feel right and made the decision to take his experience with him to build a career in the industry he always enjoyed, construction.
After working in the field 2 years building houses with one of Calgary’s well established builders, he moved to one of western Canada’s largest builders in a warranty capacity. During 5 years as an Area Service Manager, he developed a very strong affinity for finding and fixing even the most challenging problems. Moisture concerns due to leaks and building envelope issues became a bit of a specialty to him.
The experience gained while in the field coupled with a reputation for strong customer service and reputation for attention to detail lead to Pete moving into head office in 2004. He was tasked with building a warranty team for a new company division. Within 2 years his department had the highest customer satisfaction ratings in the company and was rated by both Alberta New Home Warranty and JD Powers as one of the top warranty teams in Alberta. After 4 years he took over all divisions in Southern Alberta as the Director of Warranty services.
During his nearly 6 years in his role of Warranty Services Manager / Director of Warranty Services, Pete continued with his education within the home building industry. He attended industry specific courses on structural building, moisture control, safety and business aspects of construction. In the process he graduated from the Professional Home Builders Institute of Alberta’s Master Builder Certification program (2007) and attained his Moisture Control Technician certificate.
Pete brings this knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the industry to all his projects.

The Home Smarts mantra originated with ideas that took roots while owner Pete Maisonneuve was employed by a major home builder in the Calgary area. Pete observed that the industry was changing from a mentality of doing it right and taking pride in your work to one of just getting it done quickly. During his 11 years in different capacities in new home warranty, he continually saw the negative effects poorly executed work had on both the finished product and on the home owner. This did not fit very well with his philosophy; “if you’re going to do something, make sure you do it right”.
In early 2010 the opportunity to go out on his own presented itself, and in March of that year Home Smarts Consulting and Contracting was born. The company is based on the principals of paying attention to what the client is trying to achieve and doing it right the first time. Pete’s time in the Calgary home building industry allowed him to develop strong relationships with professional, quality minded trade partners whose values align with his. These relationships along with his experience and passion for doing it right have helped build a strong reputation for quality work and great value for clients. Home Smarts has the knowledge, experience and resources to handle any project.
The family of Home Smarts clients has grown by word of mouth alone to the point where the company was incorporated in September of 2013. Home Smarts continues to serve Cochrane, Bragg Creek, Airdrie and area and is in an excellent position to continue meeting the needs of these vibrant communities.
